Welcome to the Port of Goderich

Your Gateway to Intermodal Success

The Port of Goderich is the only deepwater port on the Eastern shores of Lake Huron. Servicing regional mining, agricultural inputs and outputs, as well as manufacturing, the port is an important hub of commercial shipping in southwestern Ontario. Approximately 200 ships dock within the Port of Goderich annually, shipping commodities such as salt, grain, and calcium chloride.

The Goderich Port Management Corporation is continually upgrading infrastructure and connecting local industries to global markets. To compliment the port’s robust bulk handling operations, the GPMC is working with new partners interested in containerized cargo, project cargo, and clean energy projects.

Ongoing Projects

Agridome

Work has started on the covering of the AgriDome. Located at dock 7, this project will expand the Port of Goderich's dry storage space by 50,000 square feet with anticipated bulk storage capacity of 35,000 tonnes. The covering will feature five sliding hatches in the roof to allow the discharge of bulk cargoes such as grain, salt, potash, and gypsum from ships. The facility will also feature a mobile stacking unit to load vessels. The anticipated completion date for the project is October 2026.

Progress Update:

The final design has been finalized and work has begun. With staging complete, the East wall has been removed and the tops of several buttresses have been chipped down to the rebar. These will be recast to accommodate the baseplates of the new structure.

Expansion

The GPMC is continuing the next phase of its expansion through  an additional 11 acres adding to the initial 4.5 acres completed in 2020. Funding for the completion of the project will be recognized through successful program submissions from both the federal and provincial governments. The expansion will occupy the portion of the harbour from dock 8 to the North breakwater.

With an anticipated completion date of fall 2029, this additional transient footprint will be available for multiple use applications.

Cargo operations to include:

  • Project cargo
  • Intermodal containers
  • Roll on/Roll off
  • Bulk materials

The completion of this project is an integral part of the growth strategy at the Port of Goderich supporting regional and global supply chain stability.
